The New York Times is now owned by Gannett, which also owns CNN.
Gannett shares are up more than 5% in morning trading, after the newspaper’s share price dropped more than 20% over the past year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
CNN, which is owned by The Walt Disney Company, is down more than 9%.
The Times and CNN are not the only media companies to struggle with the rise of responsive design.
In October 2018, CNN was ranked No. 1 on the list of the world’s most-lauded companies for responsive design, according a survey of 1,100 global brands by research firm Foursquare.
The Times, by contrast, came in a distant fourth.
The Times, for example, launched its responsive redesign in October 2018 to address a perceived weakness in the paper’s layout.
The redesign included elements like a new headline and a redesigned homepage.
But it took time for users to adapt to the new layout, according the survey, which was conducted in June 2019 and includes the results of a survey conducted by Foursqare.
