NJ TRANSIT: Rutgers University police are investigating after a student reported that she found herself dead at her Newark apartment late Saturday night.
A woman living in the apartment complex near the Rutgers University campus was told by someone she had died.
The Rutgers University Police Department was notified at 9:30 p.m.
Police said that a body was found in a vacant lot in Newark, N.J. Officers from the Rutgers Police Department, the New Brunswick Police Department and the Newark Police Department were assisting with the investigation.
“The Rutgers Police are investigating a death reported at a Newark apartment early Saturday, March 4, 2017,” a police statement said.
Rutgers Police Chief Eric B. Darden said he would not be commenting further on the case until the investigation is complete.
In a news release, Darden thanked the Rutgers community for their patience and understanding as the investigation into the death was conducted.
