The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has introduced a new collection of canvas bags for people who want to throw their bag in the recycling bin, but don’t want to lug the whole thing around.
The bags are available online at www.wmta.com and will be available at stores beginning March 7.
The agency said in a news release Tuesday that the bags were created with the help of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Museum of Modern Art in New York, and are meant to be thrown into a trash can or bin, rather than thrown away.
Museum of Modern of Art officials said in the release that the canvas bags “provide an alternative for many travelers who are struggling to find space for their items while still having room to carry their own.”
The agency also said that customers can choose from one of three types of canvas bag: a bag with two side pockets and one front pocket; one with a shoulder strap and a flap for storage; and a canvas bag with a zippered pocket that can be used for organizing personal items.
They can be purchased for $15 each or as part of a $50 set of five bags.
